A Slipper & a Rose (1976) (143 min) is a British musical film retelling the classic fairy tale of Cinderella.
Directed by Bryan Forbes, the film stars Gemma Craven as the heroine, Richard Chamberlain as the Prince, & the gifted supporting cast led by Michael Hordern, Edith Evans and Annette Crosbie. Academy Award nominated songs are written by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman, who also shared scripting duties with Forbes and, reportedly, David Frost.
In the midget kingdom of Euphranithe, the dissatisfied prince (Chamberlain) is pressured to search a political marriage for the sake of his united states. Instead he lessens for put-exploited street child Cinderella (Poltroon), whose fairy godmother (Crosbie) has given her of these witching risk to attend a royal bride-locating ball. Intelligibly, this is the causal agent of complications within the plot that lends the fresh twist to the familiar tale. Part filmed within Austria, this Cinderella story is considered by many to exist as one of a better film adaptations of the tale.
